Implications of a fast changing regulatory landscape

Published

A speech by Tony D'Aloisio, Chairman, Australian Securities and Investments Commission at the Australia–Israel Chamber of Commerce Brisbane, 21 July 2010

Opening remarks

Good afternoon, I am pleased to be here today in Brisbane to speak to you about the 'Implications of a fast changing regulatory landscape'.

There certainly has been a lot of change arising out of Government policy, such as the transfer of surveillance from ASX to ASIC and from the global financial crisis, or GFC, which has led to changes in Australia, for example, for credit ratings agencies and short selling.

ASIC is also changing and growing as an organisation so I thought I would take this opportunity to make 7 points about what we are doing, provide you with some insights into our work, and discuss our approach to the current regulatory environment—here and overseas.
