How to request an ASIC key

ASIC Connect is the online system used to manage your business name.

Your ASIC key safeguards your personal information when you first set up an ASIC Connect account, by ensuring that only you, or those authorised to act on your behalf, can access your account.

Further assistance about using ASIC Connect can be accessed via the Help button at the top right-hand side of the screen.

Get started

To get started, visit the ASIC website at www.asic.gov.au.

  • Click on the blue ASIC Connect box. This will take you to ASIC Connect.

Log in

Go to ASIC Connect and select 'Log in'. 

  • If you do not have an ASIC Connect account select 'Sign up'.
  • Log in using your email address and password.

If you do not have an ASIC Connect account select 'Sign up'.

Requesting an ASIC key 

Under the 'Do It Now' box on the right-hand side, select 'Link a business/request ASIC key'.

  • You will be asked if you have an ASIC key for your business.
  • Select 'No' and you will be prompted to request an ASIC key.

For a business name holder

  • Select 'Business Name' from the drop-down box.
  • Enter your business name and select 'Search name'.
  • Select the correct name from the list of matching or similar results.
  • Select 'Request an ASIC key'.

For an SMSF auditor

  • Select 'SMSF Auditor' from the drop-down box.
  • Enter your auditor number.
  • Select 'Request an ASIC key'.

Confirmation

This screen confirms your transaction has been submitted. 

  • Select 'Print the transaction' to download a printable PDF version of the transaction.
  • Select one of the links under What else can I do for more information about other services or
  • Select 'Home' to return to the ASIC Connect home page. 

Your ASIC key will be sent to the email address currently recorded for the business. If an email address has not been provided, the ASIC key will be sent to the address for service of documents listed on the register.

What is an ASIC key?

Your ASIC key is a unique number used in ASIC Connect that helps us establish your identity and protects your business information by making sure only you and those you have authorised can access it.

An invitation key is a unique key to register for, or connect to an entity in, the ASIC Regulatory Portal.

What is an industry funding security key?

Your industry funding security key is a unique number used to launch an online transaction in the ASIC Regulatory Portal that will enable us to calculate your final industry funding invoice. You will be prompted to submit business activity metric information on the operation of your business in the previous financial year.
